Pop Filter not Used! Listen carefully and turn your speakers up, and notice how the gas from the letter "P" is hitting the mic. |
Pop Filter Used. This track sounds better because the Pop Filter is dispersing the gas from the speaker's voice. |

Aside from the Microphone Isolation Box, the Microphone Pop Filter is the second must under-used item in Pro Audio Recording. And this is unfortunate, because it can make a dramatic difference in audio quality. The Microphone Pop Filter is simply a piece of fabric stretched across a ring. Its sole purpose is to break up the force of the air molecules coming from your mouth when you talk. For some words (particularly words that contain the letter "P") a lot of gas is exerted from your mouth. This gas slams against your microphone, and produces a "thumping" noise. The Pop Filter nicely disperses the gas--thus dampening its impact on your mic.
